How do parlays work on Polymarket?

Updated · 6 min read

Quick answer

A parlay links two or more bets into one position. Every leg has to win, and the payout is the odds of all the legs multiplied together. On Polymarket this is called a Combo: you pick sports outcomes, see the combined payout before you confirm, and can sell the position before the games finish. If any single leg loses, the whole Combo loses.

What is a parlay?

A parlay bundles several independent bets (the legs) into a single wager. Instead of betting on three games separately, you bet that all three outcomes happen. The reward is a much bigger payout, because the chances of every leg winning multiply together. The risk is the mirror image: one miss and the whole parlay is lost.

On a prediction market the idea is the same, but the numbers are easier to see. Every outcome has a price between 0¢ and 100¢, which you can read as the market's estimate of the chance it happens (see how to read Polymarket odds). Multiply the chances and you get the chance of the whole parlay.

A worked example

Say you like three games, with these prices:

Three legs and their market prices
LegPickPrice (chance)
1Team A to win70¢ (70%)
2Team B to win60¢ (60%)
3Team C to win55¢ (55%)

Combined chance: 0.70 × 0.60 × 0.55 = 0.231, or 23.1%. That is a combined price of 23.1¢ for every $1 of payout, so the total return is 1 ÷ 0.231 ≈ 4.33x your stake. A $10 stake would return about $43.30 if all three legs win (a profit of about $33.30), and nothing if any leg loses. Fees and spreads are not included in this example.

Polymarket Combos: how to build one

Polymarket's built-in parlay product is called Combos. According to Polymarket's help center, Combos are currently available on sports markets only (moneyline, spread and total). Polymarket US documentation describes combining between 2 and 10 legs. To build one:

  1. Open any sports market and click Combo.
  2. Pick YES or NO on the first market.
  3. Add more markets as legs.
  4. Review the combined payout the app shows.
  5. Enter your amount and confirm.

Features can differ by country and platform, so check what your app offers. Polymarket explains the feature in What are Combos?. Polymarket is not available everywhere. Its help center lists the countries that are blocked (and says VPNs must not be used to get around it), so check Polymarket's geographic restrictions and your local rules before you sign up.

How the price is set: the quote auction

A Combo is not matched on the normal order book. Polymarket uses a request-for-quote system: when you ask for a Combo, market makers compete to offer you a price, and you accept the best one within a short window. Polymarket's documentation describes a window of a fraction of a second for market makers to quote and about ten seconds for you to accept.

If the confirm button is greyed out, nobody is currently willing to fill that exact Combo. Try removing a leg, lowering the amount, or waiting and trying again.

What happens when a leg loses

A Combo is all-or-nothing. If any leg resolves against you, the whole Combo is lost. If every leg wins, each Combo share pays $1. If a leg settles at a partial value (for example a 50/50 outcome), the payout is the product of all the legs' values.

You do not have to wait for every game: before settlement you can sell your Combo shares at the current market price, to lock in a gain or cut a loss (as long as someone is willing to buy).

Combos vs. betting each leg separately

A Combo compared with separate bets
ComboSeparate bets
What you holdOne positionSeveral independent positions
PayoutMultiplies, all-or-nothingEach leg pays on its own
If one leg losesYou lose the whole ComboYou lose only that leg
MarketsSports only, for nowAny market (sports, crypto, politics…)

Placing three bets one by one is not a parlay: you win or lose each one individually. It is also how you can mix categories, for example a sports leg and a crypto leg, which Combos do not support yet.

Practical tips

  • Fewer legs, higher chance. Each extra leg multiplies your chance of winning by a number below 1.
  • Avoid contradictory legs. Polymarket rejects Combos whose legs cannot all be true at once.
  • Read the payout and fees before confirming. The app shows the combined payout for the amount you enter.
  • Size your stake. Parlays lose much more often than single bets. Only stake what you can afford to lose.

Build and track parlays with Polycord

Polycord publishes new parlay tickets every day and shows, in real time, which legs have already won. You can also build your own from any Polymarket link with the parlay builder, or spin a random one in the Parlay Slot. Every ticket opens a step-by-step panel with a link to each leg on Polymarket.

Frequently asked questions

Does Polymarket have parlays?

Yes. Polymarket offers Combos, which combine several sports outcomes into one position. Availability can differ by country and platform.

How many legs can a Combo have?

Polymarket US documentation describes between 2 and 10 legs. Check the app for the limit that applies to you.

Can I cash out a parlay early?

Yes. Before settlement you can sell your Combo shares at the current market price, as long as there is a buyer.

Is a Combo the same as three separate bets?

No. Separate bets pay out independently. A Combo is one position that only pays if every leg wins, and its payout multiplies the legs.

Can I combine crypto or politics markets in a parlay?

Not in a Combo today: Polymarket limits Combos to sports markets for now. You can still place separate bets on those markets.
